Tracking the Wheel-to-Walk crew

You may have noticed the blue button link at the top of GPS Police website leading you to a page showing the exact location of a wheel-chair-cyclist. Well, its not just one cyclist, but four (and their crew). Four determined men are hand cycling across Canada in an effort to raise national awareness (and $10M) to a program in which the outcome may lead to final medical research in which spinal cord damage can be corrected. So what does this have to do with GPS Police?
Wheel to Walk

In May of 2008, Nancy Gimpelj, one of the event organizers, contacted GPS Police to buy a tracking system and link it to their website so that over the 3 months of cycling, sponsors, public, and family can see the progress of the wheel-to-walk crew. When GPS Police fully understood what Nancy wanted, we shipped the needed equipment to their location in Toronto and immediately assigned our chief programmer to create a custom “Wheel-To-Walk” page on the GPS Police website. The GPS tracking device Nancy has in their vans transmit the information constantly in real-time, updating the progress on their web page every second. They have been pretty pleased overall with the system and we’ve been happy to help them out in anyway we could.

This isn’t the first time GPS Police has participated in a charity event. In 2005 GPS Police helped organize and fund a 1200km ride from Vancouver, BC to Calgary, AB, in association with the Lance Armstrong Foundation. You can see the Live Strong page which highlighted our efforts.Livestrong
